Club History

Founded in 1971 and based in the northernmost provincial capital, FC Groningen style themselves "Pride of the North." KNVB Cup winners in 2015, the club were relegated in 2022-23 but bounced back after a single season in the Eerste Divisie.

A 13th-place finish in 2024-25 secured their return to Eredivisie stability. The student city of Groningen provides a youthful, energetic backdrop.

Playing Style

Dick Lukkien is contracted through 2028, bringing years of experience from his time at FC Emmen. He aims for attractive, attacking football while maintaining defensive stability.

Euroborg

Opened in 2006, the Euroborg seats 22,550 and replaced the old Oosterparkstadion. A modern landmark in Groningen, it hosts cultural events alongside football.
