Founded in 1920 in the small Frisian town of Heerenveen, SC Heerenveen are one of the northernmost clubs in the Eredivisie. They carry the pride of Frisian culture and have won the KNVB Cup twice (2000, 2009).
The club's greatest legend is Abe Lenstra, one of the finest players in Dutch football history, whose name adorns the home stadium.
After Robin van Persie was lured away by Feyenoord in March 2025, Robin Veldman was appointed on a contract through June 2027. He favours a 4-2-3-1 with aggressive pressing and a high line, emphasising quick transitions and youth development.
The 26,100-capacity Abe Lenstra Stadion is impressively large for a town of Heerenveen's size, serving as the sporting centrepiece of Friesland.
