Match Preview
- With league leaders PSV Eindhoven running away with it on 78 points, a meeting with 11th-placed Go Ahead Eagles (37 points) is set. PSV lead Feyenoord (2nd, 61 points) by 17 points and, with two rounds left, look to win against last year's KNVB Cup winners to clinch the title. Go Ahead Eagles have battled on resiliently with two wins, two draws and one defeat (W-L-W-D-D) over their last five.
- With both sides set up in a 4-2-3-1, the battle for midfield control is key. PSV look to supply America international Ricardo Pepi (23, ST, 35 caps and 13 goals) from the creative second line of Austria international Paul Wanner (21, CAM) and Guus Til (28, CAM). The Eagles, by contrast, attack down the right through Denmark U21 international Jakob Breum (22, RW) and Belgian-born Mathis Suray (24, CM).
- In the away meeting in Matchday 9 this season, PSV won 2-1. In that game PSV took control early and silenced the Go Ahead Eagles home fans. This time the rematch is at the Eagles' home, De Adelaarshorst, where they take on the contest with pride as last year's KNVB Cup winners.
- On PSV's left wing, the great veteran Ivan Perisic (37, LW), with 142 caps and 33 goals for Croatia, starts. A world-class operator who scored in the 2018 World Cup final, he has experience at top European clubs such as Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Tottenham. With accurate shooting and crossing off both feet, he puts pressure on right-back Alfons Sampsted (28, RB, Iceland international).
- The Eagles deploy Iceland international Stefan Ingi Sigurdarson (23, ST) up front. With aerial play and a nose for goal making use of his 191cm frame, he is a promising youngster who joined for a near club-record fee from Sandefjord in Norway. Whether he can use his height advantage against PSV's young centre-back pairing of Jarek Gasiorowski (21, CB, Spain U21) and Ryan Flamingo (23, CB, Netherlands U21) is one to watch.
- PSV's America international right-back Sergino Dest (25, RB) is an attacking full-back with experience at top European clubs in Ajax, Barcelona and AC Milan. Known for overlapping runs using his pace and carrying the ball with his dribbling, his one-on-one duel with the Eagles' left flank, Aske Adelgaard (22, LB, Danish-born), will be the main battleground on the left.
- The Eagles' defensive midfielder Mees Meulensteen (26, CDM) is a Manchester United academy product who also has experience at Sampdoria in Italy. His versatility, being able to play centre-back too, is appealing, and he excels at winning the ball and covering. He is expected to take on the task of shutting down the free movement of PSV's No. 10 Wanner (20) and Til (28).
