Match Preview
- This is a meeting of teams at opposite ends of the table. Feyenoord are unbeaten in three matches, two wins and a draw for seven points and third place, with eight scored and four conceded for a plus-four goal difference; they have a game in hand on leaders AZ Alkmaar, who sit on 12 points from four. ADO Den Haag are 17th, still without a point after three defeats, having scored twice and conceded nine for a goal difference of minus seven.
- The manner of ADO's losses is the concern. They went down 2-0 away at AZ, were beaten 4-1 at home by Groningen and lost 3-1 at Go Ahead Eagles. Feyenoord, by contrast, won 1-0 away at Sparta Rotterdam on the opening weekend and put five past Cambuur on the road in round three. The promoted side must find defensive structure quickly against one of the division's most productive attacks.
- Japan international Ayase Ueda leads the Feyenoord line. The 28-year-old centre-forward, 1.82m tall, scored 22 goals to finish as runner-up in the Belgian scoring charts with Cercle Brugge before arriving for a club-record fee. His movement inside the box and his runs in behind are his defining traits, and in a 4-3-3 where both wingers stretch the pitch, those central duels will decide how many clear chances the hosts generate.
- At the other end of the pitch stands a second Japan international, Tsuyoshi Watanabe, a 29-year-old centre-back of 1.84m who made 100 competitive appearances for Gent in Belgium and captained the side on the pitch. He hangs in the air well on headers and reads passing lanes for interceptions. ADO lead their line with 20-year-old Yannick Fereira Eduardo, a 1.93m striker schooled at RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim, so the aerial contest between them is one to watch.
- ADO centre-back Milan Hokke returns to a former club: Feyenoord appear among his previous sides. The 22-year-old stands 1.90m, came through locally and was part of the back line that earned promotion to the Eredivisie. He is now asked to handle Ueda and the runs of Diarra and Hadj-Moussa on the ground where he was once developed, a stern examination of how far a young defender has come.
- The reverse story sits on the Feyenoord bench. Sem Steijn, a 24-year-old attacking midfielder of just 1.73m, lists ADO Den Haag among his former clubs and arrived from Twente for a club-record fee after winning both the Eredivisie golden boot and player of the season award in 2024-25. His positioning around the six-yard box and finishing accuracy make him a genuine game-changer if introduced.
- Pace on the flanks is central to Feyenoord's plan. On the left, Mali international Gaoussou Diarra, 23, arrived for around 3.5 million euros after 15 goals in 34 games for Istanbulspor in Turkey. On the right, Algeria international Anis Hadj-Moussa, 24, is a left-footer who cuts inside and earned a five-year deal after impressing on loan at Vitesse. ADO must contain them with 27-year-old Guinean Sekou Sylla and 20-year-old Othniël Raterink at full-back.
- The midfield gap may be decisive. Feyenoord field Luciano Valente, the 27-year-old central midfielder who came through Groningen and wears the number 10 after a move worth roughly seven million euros, alongside Morocco international Oussama Targhalline, a 1.86m holding midfielder from Marseille's academy, and 1.71m Netherlands under-21 international Gjivai Zechiël, 22. ADO answer with a double pivot of 23-year-old Mylian Jiménez and Finland's Juho Kilo, 24.
- ADO are built around their academy, with Hokke at 1.90m and Raterink at 1.89m forming a back line barely out of their teens. Pascal Mulder, 27, who worked his way up from the Dutch lower divisions, supplies the experience beside them, while 36-year-old Daryl van Mieghem, all 1.70m of him, leads a young attack. Burkina Faso's Kilian Nikiéma, 23, starts in goal.
