Match Preview
- ADO Den Haag arrive 15th with a single point from four matches, no wins and a goal difference of minus seven from four scored and eleven conceded. Fortuna Sittard sit eighth on seven points after two wins, a draw and a defeat, six clear of their hosts. With AZ Alkmaar setting the pace on 15 points from five games, ADO are level on points with Utrecht, Willem II and Cambuur and stay out of last place only on goal difference.
- ADO's lone point came in round four, when they went to Feyenoord and came away with a 2-2 draw. That followed three straight defeats: 0-2 away at AZ on the opening weekend, 1-4 at home to Groningen, and 1-3 at GO Ahead Eagles. Back in the Eredivisie after a five-season absence, the promoted side host only their second home league game of the campaign still chasing a first win.
- Fortuna's start has been a mix of highs and lows. They opened by drawing 2-2 away at PSV Eindhoven, beat Cambuur 3-1 at home, then lost 0-2 to AZ on their own ground before winning 3-2 away at Groningen in round four. The contrast against a common opponent is stark: Fortuna took all three points at Groningen, while ADO were beaten 1-4 by the same side at home.
- The shape battle pits ADO's 4-2-3-1 against a Fortuna back five in a 5-3-2. The key question is where the visiting defence picks up ADO's supporting attackers, 36-year-old veteran Daryl van Mieghem and Curaçao international Nigel Thomas. In the other direction, ADO will look to attack the space that opens behind Fortuna's widest defenders, not least when 36-year-old captain Ivo Pinto pushes forward.
- Fortuna's midfield is stacked with reclaimed talent. Mohamed Ihattaren, 24, was hailed as a prodigy at PSV before moves to Juventus, Sampdoria and Ajax, and the left-footed number ten is rebuilding his career here. Beside him is Édouard Michut, 23, once labelled the new Verratti at the Paris Saint-Germain academy and since tested at Sunderland and Adana Demirspor. Two left-footed technicians will try to dictate the tempo.
- ADO answer with a double pivot of Mylian Jiménez, 23, a product of PSV and Jong PSV who also spent time at Aalborg, and Finland's Juho Kilo, 24, who began his professional career with Haka at home. At 176cm and 178cm neither is imposing physically, so their running and duels will decide whether Ihattaren and Michut get time on the ball.
- Fortuna centre-back Justin Hubner, 22, has an unusual passport-and-pathway story. Raised in the Wolverhampton Wanderers academy, he later played in Japan's J1 with Cerezo Osaka and now represents Indonesia at international level, offering 187cm of height plus the pace and passing of a modern defender. Alongside him is Brazilian Rodrigo Guth, 25, a 191cm centre-back schooled at Atalanta.
- There is serious height in both boxes. Fortuna's Lequincio Zeefuik, 21, stands 197cm and is on loan from AZ, using his aerial presence and hold-up play to lead the line. He will be tested by ADO's young defence: 190cm Milan Hokke, 22, a former Feyenoord youth player, and 189cm Othniël Raterink, born in 2006. ADO have their own target man in 193cm Yannick Fereira Eduardo, 20, who came through the RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim academies.
- Both benches carry useful options. ADO can call on Austrian forward Luka Reischl, 22, a Red Bull Salzburg academy graduate, Czech midfielder Jan Žambůrek, 25, previously at Brentford and Heracles, and German-raised American Jalen Hawkins. Fortuna hold back 195cm Moroccan holding midfielder Yassin Oukili, 197cm reserve goalkeeper Kaylen Reitmaier, and 2007-born Belgian midfielder Moussa Gbemou.
