Match Preview
- A genuine relegation six-pointer: 14th-placed Telstar, on five points, host winless ADO Den Haag, who sit 17th with two. Cambuur are 15th on five, PEC Zwolle 16th on four and Willem II 18th on two, so the bottom of the table is packed into a three-point span - a different planet from leaders Feyenoord and their 20 points from eight games.
- ADO are still looking for a first win of the campaign after seven matches: no wins, two draws, five defeats and 17 goals conceded. They lost 3-1 at Go Ahead Eagles in round three, 3-2 at home to Fortuna Sittard in round five and 2-0 at Twente in round six. The flip side is a 2-2 draw away at Feyenoord in round four and a 1-1 at home to Cambuur last time out, back in the Eredivisie after five seasons away.
- Telstar have not won in five either, taking two draws and three defeats. Ajax hammered them 4-0 in Velsen-Zuid in round four, but they then kept a clean sheet in a goalless draw at Heerenveen and went down only 1-0 at AZ in round seven. The defence is holding up; the issue is at the other end, with five goals in seven games for a side playing top-flight football for the first time in 47 years.
- Tactically it is Telstar's 4-3-3 against an ADO 4-4-2 built around height. The visiting strike pair is 182cm Evan Rottier and 193cm Yannick Fereira Eduardo, a 20-year-old Czech schooled at RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim. Dealing with the crosses and second balls falls to a Telstar back line featuring 35-year-old Marvin Peersman and the 195cm S. Valk.
- In goal for the hosts is 31-year-old Ronald Koeman Jr., son of the Netherlands head coach and born in Barcelona. The 188cm keeper joined from TOP Oss, via Almere City, in 2021, helped the club end a 47-year wait for Eredivisie football and was voted their player of the year. Calm in possession and comfortable with the ball at his feet, he recently signed on until 2028.
- Telstar's attack is an interesting mix. Jelani Seedorf, 23, is the nephew of former Netherlands international Clarence Seedorf, a striker who came through the Sparta Rotterdam youth system and also played for Excelsior. On the right, 26-year-old Portuguese winger Rui Mendes scored 10 in 59 games for Hoffenheim II and 15 in the Eerste Divisie for FC Emmen to help them go up. Academy graduate Nils Rossen, 21, adds one-v-one threat.
- ADO's creative hub is 22-year-old Matěj Šín. The attacking midfielder came out of Baník Ostrava and signed a five-year deal with AZ in 2025, having represented the Czech Republic at every level from U-16 to U-20. Beside him are 25-year-old American Jalen Hawkins, who learned his trade in Germany with Waldhof Mannheim and Ingolstadt, and Finland's Juho Kilo, 24, who began his career at Haka.
- There is a reunion on the visiting bench: 36-year-old Daryl van Mieghem faces a former club in Telstar. The 170cm forward has also played for FC Volendam, Heracles and Excelsior across a long career in the Dutch professional game, and his craft and game management make him the senior figure in a young ADO attack. If he comes on, it will be against familiar surroundings.
- Telstar have plenty to turn to as well. Iceland international Nökkvi Þórisson, a 188cm left winger on loan from Sparta Rotterdam, has previously played for Beerschot and St. Louis City in MLS. Curaçao international Ar'jany Martha, 23, arrived from Rotherham United on loan with an option to buy after more than 100 appearances for Jong Ajax, while Turkey U19 winger Emirhan Demircan, a Bayern Munich academy product, is also among the substitutes.
- ADO's back four blends size with hard-earned experience. Milan Hokke, 23 and a Feyenoord youth product, stands 190cm, and 26-year-old Belgian Matteo Waem, signed from MVV, is 189cm, giving the visitors aerial cover. Alongside them, 27-year-old Pascal Mulder worked his way up through Dutch lower-league sides such as HHC and Staphorst. The gloves belong to 23-year-old Burkinabè keeper Kilian Nikiéma, 188cm tall.
