Formed in 1970 through the merger of three local clubs, FC Utrecht are based in the Netherlands' fourth-largest city. An extraordinary 55 consecutive seasons in the top flight makes them one of the most durable clubs outside the Big Three.
Three KNVB Cup triumphs (2003, 2004, 2023) highlight their cup pedigree. A fourth-place finish in 2024-25 secured Europa League qualification for the first time since 2009.
Veteran manager Ron Jans, appointed in 2023, has announced his retirement at the end of the 2025-26 season after a 35-year coaching career. He favours organised, defensively solid football.
His successor, current Telstar coach Anthony Correia, has already been confirmed for 2026-27. The desire to give Jans a fitting send-off has become a unifying force for the squad.
The 23,750-capacity Stadion Galgenwaard sits in Utrecht's cultural quarter, surrounded by festival grounds and concert halls. Its compact design creates an intimate, intense atmosphere on match days.
