Match Preview
- Kashiwa Reysol arrive level on points with the leaders. Two wins from two have them third on six points with a +3 goal difference, behind Machida Zelvia (+8) and Sanfrecce Hiroshima (+6) only on that tiebreaker. Nagasaki sit 10th on three points, having beaten Kyoto Sanga 2-1 at home before losing 1-0 away at Fagiano Okayama.
- Both sides line up in a 3-4-2-1, so the shape is a mirror image. Kashiwa pair 24-year-old Atsuaki Nakagawa, a central midfielder out of Hosei University and the 2024 Denso Cup MVP, with the 185cm Koki Kumasaka. Nagasaki answer with 34-year-old Diego Pituca, a left-footed central midfielder with 169 competitive appearances for Santos, alongside 35-year-old holding midfielder Hotaru Yamaguchi, a World Cup veteran.
- Takuma Ominami returns to face a former club. The 28-year-old centre-back, who starts in the middle of Nagasaki's back three, spent time at Kashiwa before spells with OH Leuven, Kawasaki Frontale and Jubilo Iwata. His likely assignment is 187cm striker Yuki Kakita, whose aerial game and hold-up play are built on the technical grounding drilled into him by his father, a former Kashima player.
- This is only the second start of Kumasaka's comeback. The 25-year-old, called into the Japan squad in 2025 on the back of his aerial presence and duel-winning at 185cm, came back from a ruptured ACL in his right knee to play a full 90 minutes against Tokyo Verdy on 14 August, his first in 446 days, in the 3-1 win that made it two from two.
- The four players operating behind the strikers may decide the tone of the game. Kashiwa field two-footed attacking midfielder Yoshio Koizumi, 29, an AFC Champions League winner with Urawa and a Club World Cup match MVP, next to Hinata Yamauchi, a Kawasaki Frontale academy product known for his through balls. Nagasaki counter with Genki Hasegawa, 27, an attacking midfielder with top-flight experience at Albirex Niigata and Ventforet Kofu, and Yuto Iwasaki, once labelled the best high-school striker in Japan and a former international.
- Nagasaki's Brazilian spine will test the Kashiwa back three. Thiago Santana, 33, is a 184cm target man with a reliable left foot who sharpened his scoring instincts at Shimizu S-Pulse and Urawa after arriving from Portugal. Waiting for him are Taiyo Koga, the Kashiwa academy centre-back whose passing range starts most attacks, and Wataru Harada, timed at a top speed of 35.0 km/h. Pituca's left foot is the main supply line.
- The flanks promise a busy evening. Kashiwa have former Union Berlin winger Keita Endo, a J1 champion with Yokohama F. Marinos, on the left and the 167cm Tojiro Kubo, who managed 10 goals and six assists at Fujieda MYFC, on the right. Nagasaki's left is manned by 31-year-old left-footer Sei Onaga, back at a former club after stints with Tokyo Verdy, Machida Zelvia and Omiya Ardija, with Juntendo University graduate Junya Yoneda on the right.
- The goalkeeping matchup offers a contrast in styles. Kashiwa's Ryosuke Kojima, 29, is a modern keeper whose accurate left-footed distribution makes him a build-up outlet, with Albirex Niigata, Oita and a U-20 World Cup on his resume. Nagasaki's Masaaki Goto, 32, leans on his 190cm frame for aerial claims and organisation, having played every league match in three consecutive seasons at Montedio Yamagata. The 198cm Go Hatano waits on the bench.
- The benches could swing the closing stages. Kashiwa can call on Japan international Mao Hosoya, timed at six seconds over 50 metres, and set-piece specialist Riki Harakawa, a veteran of Kawasaki Frontale, Cerezo Osaka and Kyoto Sanga who lands free kicks from around 30 metres. Nagasaki hold back 35-year-old Takashi Sawada, a driving force behind their promotion to J1, and Ryosuke Shindo, a former Japan call-up who played on the right of Sapporo's three-man defence.
