Match Preview
- The final match of the Asian final qualifying round, with Japan having already secured top spot. With an overwhelming record of eight wins and a draw, they have already locked in qualification for the 2026 World Cup and approach the remaining game as a dead rubber.
- Shuto Machino is used at centre-forward for the second match running, with attention on his evaluation as a new option for the World Cup. He will want to show his creativity beneath the front pairing of Daichi Kamada and Takefusa Kubo and stake his claim in the battle for a national-team place.
- Indonesia lost the November meeting in Jakarta 0-4, but a stronger showing is expected this time away. As a multinational squad with many players of Dutch descent, the question is how much they can resist Japan's defence.
- In Japan's 3-4-2-1 system, Wataru Endo anchors midfield while Kaishu Sano and Ryoya Morishita provide width as wing-backs. If their fluidity in attack and compactness in defence click, a high-scoring game can be expected.
- Indonesia goalkeeper Audero is a 190cm tall keeper who has also been capped by Italy. The key is how much he can withstand Japan's onslaught with the steady shot-stopping honed through his Serie A experience.
- With both wing-backs Kaishu Sano and Ryoya Morishita joining the attack, Japan look to break through from the flanks. To unlock Indonesia's near-six-man defensive block, they will want to mix up crosses and cut-ins.
- The back three of Ayumu Seko, Kota Takai and Junnosuke Suzuki has the build-up from deep, centred on the left-footed Seko, as a weapon. The question is how they evade Indonesia's frontline press and construct their attacks.
- Indonesia's number 10 Thom Haye Romeny is an attacker with experience of playing in the Netherlands. Partnering number 13 Gilstra up front, they will look to exploit Japan's high defensive line with play from long balls.
