DEPORTIVO ALAVES
Deportivo Alavés
Club History
Founded in 1921 in Vitoria-Gasteiz in the Basque Country. The 2000-01 UEFA Cup final remains the club's crowning moment — though they lost to Liverpool, the run announced Alaves to the world. Since then, they have oscillated between divisions as a classic "elevator club".
Though based in the Basque Country, Alaves do not follow Athletic Club's Basque-only policy, fielding players of various nationalities. Mendizorrotza (capacity 19,840, opened 1924) is a compact ground steeped in history.
