Match Preview
- A basement six-pointer to open September. Getafe are 15th on three points from three matches (1W-2L), Celta 17th on two from four (2D-2L), and their records are eerily identical: one goal scored, four conceded, a minus-three difference each. Leaders Barcelona already have 12 points from four games, while Celta sit level on points with 18th-placed Malaga, split only by goal difference (-3 to -6).
- Celta are still hunting a first win. After a 1-2 home defeat to Osasuna on the opening weekend they drew 0-0 at Valencia, lost 0-2 at home to Athletic Club and drew 0-0 at Real Sociedad. That round-one strike remains their only goal of the season, so the D-L-L-D sequence says less about resilience than about a forward line that has blanked three times in a row.
- Getafe's lone win was a 1-0 home success over Racing Santander in round two. On the road they were beaten 3-0 at Alaves and 1-0 at Osasuna, meaning every point they hold has been earned in their own stadium. They also have a game in hand on most of the division with only three matches played, so three points here would lift them several places.
- It is a reunion night for Ilaix Moriba. The 23-year-old Guinea international came through Barcelona's La Masia and has since played for RB Leipzig and Valencia, with a spell at Getafe in between. Just 165cm tall but built for contact, he is a driving box-to-box operator rather than a screening holder, and lines up in Celta's four-man midfield band against a former club.
- The shape clash is Getafe's 5-3-2 versus Celta's 3-4-3, which throws the emphasis onto the flanks. Celta station Javi Galan high on the left: a natural left-back at 31, only 170cm, with Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad behind him and a return to Vigo on his record. He goes up against 35-year-old Kiko Femenia, a rare product of both the Barcelona and Real Madrid academies who spent five seasons at Watford.
- Celta's back three is stacked with mileage. Marcos Alonso (35, 188cm, left-footed, formerly Chelsea, Barcelona and Fiorentina) partners Sweden international Carl Starfelt (31), a back-to-back Scottish champion with Celtic, and 22-year-old academy graduate Joel Lago. Their assignment is a Getafe front pair of the 190cm Martin Satriano and 187cm Enes Unal, so aerial duels should decide plenty.
- Unal's presence carries its own subplot: the 29-year-old Turkey striker scored 34 goals in 104 appearances for Getafe in an earlier spell before a career that took in Manchester City, Villarreal and Bournemouth, and he is back in this shirt. Beside him, Uruguayan Satriano is an Inter Milan youth product with loan stints at Lyon, Brest and Empoli, a 190cm target man capable of linking play as well as finishing.
- Midfield control looks pivotal. Getafe screen the five-man defence with Belgium international Orel Mangala (28), a Borussia Dortmund academy graduate whose travels include Stuttgart, Nottingham Forest and Lyon. Either side of him are 22-year-old Real Madrid 'La Fabrica' product Mario Martin and left-footed Ramon Terrats (25), matched up against Moriba, 23-year-old Miguel Roman and Morocco's 20-year-old El Abdellaoui.
- Iago Aspas, 39 years old and Celta's all-time leading scorer, still fronts the attack with that trademark left foot and set-piece precision. If the goals refuse to come, Vigo's bench offers Borja Iglesias — 'El Panda', 33, a Copa del Rey winner with Real Betis and a Bundesliga winner at Bayer Leverkusen, now back at a former club — plus former Club Brugge forward Ferran Jutgla (27).
- The goalkeeping duel pits Getafe's David Soria (33, 192cm), a Europa League winner during his Sevilla days, against Celta's Ionut Radu (29), an Inter Milan youth product and Romania international whose CV includes Venezia, Bournemouth and Auxerre. Getafe also hold Real Madrid-raised Borja Mayoral (29, ex-Roma and Wolfsburg) in reserve, the obvious card to play in a one-goal game.
