Match Preview
- Getafe sit 15th on four points from four games (1W-1D-2L) with just two goals scored and five conceded, while promoted Deportivo La Coruna are unbeaten in sixth on eight points from two wins and two draws. Barcelona have already banked 15 points from five matches, so this is a meeting between a newly promoted side flirting with the top half and a home team that needs to start climbing. The two clubs have not met yet this season.
- Getafe's problem is plain to see: two goals in four matches. At home they edged Racing Santander 1-0 and drew 1-1 with Celta Vigo, conceding only once across those games, but on the road they were beaten 3-0 at Alaves and 1-0 at Osasuna without scoring either time. Converting that home solidity into three points is the entire assignment.
- Deportivo eased into the campaign with 1-1 draws against Elche at home and Malaga away before finding their range, beating Valencia 3-1 and then winning 3-2 away at Villarreal. Their eight goals are four times Getafe's tally and they carry a plus-three goal difference, yet five conceded in four games suggests the back line is still being assembled on the job.
- Deportivo's front two pairs 37-year-old Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with Bill Nsongo. Aubameyang arrived from Marseille with Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea on his CV, still times his runs in behind superbly and takes the penalties. Nsongo was a driving force in the promotion season, his two-goal display against Valladolid capturing the profile of a striker who links play and presses as well as he finishes.
- Getafe answer with Enes Unal and Ivan Azon. Unal, 29 and 187cm, is back at a club where he once scored 34 goals in 104 appearances, and he has also passed through Manchester City, Villarreal and Bournemouth. Azon, 23, came through the Real Zaragoza academy and has Spain Under-21 experience, using his strength and hold-up play as the reference point for the attack.
- Both sides line up in a 4-4-2, making the middle a straight four-against-four. Deportivo build around Marc Casado, the 22-year-old former Barcelona anchor who captained La Masia, alongside Fiorentina-schooled Lorenzo Amatucci, with 163cm playmaker Mario Soriano, an Atletico Madrid youth product who featured in every game of the promotion year, pulling the strings. Getafe counter with Belgium international Orel Mangala, a Dortmund academy graduate, and Real Madrid's La Fabrica product Mario Martin.
- The physical contrast is stark. Getafe can load set pieces with Martin Satriano at 190cm, Unal at 187cm and centre-back Nemanja Gudelj, himself 187cm and the team's dead-ball specialist, with 192cm goalkeeper David Soria behind them. Deportivo's midfield is tiny by comparison: Soriano at 163cm, Luis Cruz at 166cm, Casado at 171cm and Amatucci at 172cm. Second balls and aerial duels could set the tone.
- The goalkeeping duel pits experience against investment. Soria, 33, won the Europa League during his Sevilla years and is valued for calm positioning and reliable shot-stopping. Leonardo Roman, 26 and 189cm, was this summer's marquee signing at around nine million euros from Mallorca, earned a Spain call-up on the back of last season and is trusted with the gloves for Deportivo's first top-flight campaign in eight years.
- Both benches carry genuine weight. Deportivo can call on Angelino, the 29-year-old academy graduate back at his boyhood club on loan from Roma with an option to buy after spells at Manchester City and RB Leipzig, plus Adama Traore, who made more than 100 Premier League appearances with Wolves, and left winger Jeremay Hernandez, the team's penalty and free-kick taker. Getafe keep Borja Mayoral, 29, a Real Madrid academy forward with Roma, Levante and Wolfsburg behind him, in reserve.
