Match Preview
- Betis arrive fourth with 16 points from seven matches (5-1-1), a game in hand on most rivals and just two points behind third-placed Real Madrid on 18. Leaders Barcelona sit on 24. Osasuna, by contrast, are 15th on eight points with a goal difference of minus seven, the fourth-worst mark in the division.
- The hosts come in on a run of L-W-W-W-D. They beat Real Madrid 1-0 at home in round four, won 2-1 away at Villarreal in round five and edged Getafe 1-0 in round six before a 1-1 draw at Deportivo La Coruna. Crucially, their last two home outings have both been clean sheets.
- Osasuna's recent record tells a different story: a 1-0 home win over Getafe in round three was followed by three straight defeats, 5-2 at Alaves, 0-2 at home to Espanyol and 4-0 at Atletico Madrid. Thirteen goals conceded in seven games is the backdrop to the 1-1 home draw with Rayo Vallecano that finally stopped the slide.
- Abde Ezzalzouli faces the club where he first made his name. The 24-year-old Morocco international came through at Osasuna before a spell at Barcelona and now wears number 10 for Betis, using explosive pace and a right-footed cut inside from the left. Osasuna's flank cover includes 21-year-old academy product Inigo Arguibide.
- Osasuna's number nine Raul Garcia also meets a former employer. The 25-year-old won the Copa del Rey with Real Betis before moving to Pamplona, and at 192cm he offers hold-up play, aerial presence and a poacher's instinct. He will be picked up by Natan, the 188cm left-footed Brazilian, and 33-year-old Diego Llorente, a veteran of Leeds and Roma.
- The midfield contrast is stark. Betis line up 4-2-3-1 with a double pivot of Marc Roca, the 184cm left-footer who played for Bayern Munich, and Pablo Fornals, a long-serving West Ham man, both built for circulation and control. Osasuna's 4-4-2 counters with 190cm Lucas Torro and 189cm Moncayola, a club-bred all-rounder, in the centre.
- Isco, 34, pulls the strings from the hole. A four-time Champions League winner at Real Madrid, he thrives on tight control and dribbling in congested spaces. Ahead of him is Cucho Hernandez, the 27-year-old striker who became a star at Columbus Crew in MLS after spells with Watford, Getafe and Mallorca.
- Height favours the visitors. Catena (194cm), Unai Santos (190cm) and Lucas Torro (190cm) line up behind a front pair of Ante Budimir (190cm) and Raul Garcia (192cm). Catena, who helped Rayo Vallecano win promotion to the top flight, is also a set-piece threat, so dead-ball defending will test a Betis back line that has kept two straight home clean sheets.
- Betis can also change the game from the bench. Antony, the Brazil winger formerly of Manchester United and Ajax, Argentina's Giovani Lo Celso, a veteran of Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham, and Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott, who scored 17 goals at Excelsior, are all available. So is Dani Ceballos, 30, back at Betis after Real Madrid and Arsenal.
- Watch the wide areas too. Hector Bellerin, 31 and a long-time Arsenal right-back, still attacks the touchline with real speed, while 169cm Fran Garcia supplies left-footed crosses honed in Real Madrid's academy. Osasuna answer with 33-year-old Ruben Garcia, who has over 300 La Liga appearances, and Moi Gomez, a Europa League winner with Villarreal.
