Club History

Founded in 1950 in the Breton port city of Brest, the club spent most of its history in the lower divisions. Promotion to Ligue 1 in 2019 began a remarkable transformation under manager Eric Roy.

In 2023-24, Brest achieved a stunning 3rd-place finish to qualify for the Champions League for the first time — one of French football's greatest underdog stories. A club with one of the league's smallest budgets reaching Europe's top table was a triumph of tactics and unity.

Stade Francis-Le Ble

Opened in 1922, Stade Francis-Le Ble holds just 15,097 — among the smallest in Ligue 1. As a UEFA Category 2 venue, it could not host Champions League matches, forcing Brest to play "home" CL games at Guingamp's Stade de Roudourou. The intimate setting fosters a closeness between fans and players that defines the club's character.

The Eric Roy Factor

Appointed in January 2023, Eric Roy maximises limited resources through disciplined defensive organisation and efficient counter-attacking. His system proved effective even on the Champions League stage, and his continued presence may be Brest's most valuable asset — more so than any individual player.
