Match Preview
- A mid-table clash between 12th-placed Brest (38 points from 32 games) and 8th-placed Strasbourg (47 points from 32 games). Brest are on a three-game losing run, L-D-D-L-L in their last five, and lost 0-1 away at PSG last time out. Just three points clear of 13th-placed Angers (35 points), they are in a dangerous position that could see them dragged into the relegation battle.
- In this season's Matchday 14 meeting, away side Brest beat Strasbourg 2-1, and now comes the home rematch. Strasbourg are in an unstable spell, alternating results W-L-W-L-D in their last five, and with a seven-point gap to 7th-placed Monaco (54 points), their fight for a European place looks tough.
- The focus in Brest's 4-2-3-1 is lone striker Ajorque (32, 197cm). A former Strasbourg talisman who scored 50 goals and helped them win the League Cup, this is a reunion with his old club. He also has Bundesliga experience at Mainz, a target man who combines aerial ability from his height with technique at his feet, driving the attack with his hold-up play.
- Strasbourg play a 4-1-4-1 with Julio Enciso (22, Paraguay international) up front. He made his professional debut at 15 with Libertad and, after a spell at Brighton, joined here — a talent who, despite his slight 173cm frame, has explosive acceleration and accurate long-range shooting as his weapons. In midfield, Valentin Barco (20, Argentina international, formerly of Boca Juniors) creates chances with accurate left-footed crosses.
- Strasbourg's left side is loaded with notable talent. Diego Moreira (20, Portugal U-21) is a left-footed winger who joined after spells at Standard Liege, Benfica and Chelsea. His weapons are pace and dribbling, and he excels at cutting inside from the left. Ben Chilwell (28, 21 caps for England, formerly of Chelsea) waits on the bench.
- The goalkeeping duel pits Brest's Coudert (30, France) against Strasbourg's Mike Penders (19, Netherlands). Penders in particular is a promising young, big-framed keeper who has earned a regular spot this season. Brest's defence has been shaky, conceding 11 goals in their last five, so hopes ride on Ajorque's scoring touch.
