Match Preview
- Lille are unbeaten on seven points in fifth, having won at Angers 2-0 on the opening weekend, drawn 2-2 at home with Paris Saint-Germain and edged Toulouse 1-0 away last time out. Victory here would take them to ten points, level with leaders Monaco, who have played four. Troyes arrive tenth on four points from a win, a draw and a defeat, with a goal difference of minus three.
- Troyes have run hot and cold. They shut out Paris FC in a goalless home opener and won 2-1 at Lorient, a fine start for a promoted side, only to be taken apart 2-6 at home by Strasbourg last weekend. Seven goals conceded in three games is the number they carry into a trip to a Lille side yet to lose.
- Japan international Ayase Ueda leads the Lille line. The 28-year-old went from Hosei University to Kashima Antlers, then scored 22 goals at Cercle Brugge to finish second in the Belgian scoring charts, earning a club-record move to Feyenoord. His movement inside the box and his knack for running beyond the last line are his defining traits, and if Lille dominate territory, the split-second duels in tight areas will decide whether he gets his chance.
- The line behind Ueda is well stocked. Number ten Hákon Arnar Haraldsson is an Iceland international who won three straight Danish Superliga titles at Copenhagen, combining creative passing with a goal threat of his own. On the right is Dilane Bakwa, a left-footed dribbler who produced 12 goals and 19 assists in 71 matches at Strasbourg, while the left belongs to 173cm Turkish attacker Başar Önal, schooled in the Netherlands with De Graafschap and NEC Nijmegen.
- The double pivots make for a contrast. Lille field two tall midfielders: Lille-born Algeria international Nabil Bentaleb, a 187cm left-footer developed at Tottenham who returned after a cardiac arrest, and 188cm DR Congo international Ngal'ayel Mukau, signed from Mechelen and the scorer of two goals against Bologna in the Champions League. Troyes counter with Senegalese Mouhamed Diop, who arrived via Kocaelispor in Turkey, and Togo international Dermane Karim, a technical playmaker shaped by spells at Feyenoord, Kortrijk and Lorient.
- Lille's back four carries international pedigree. Alexsandro, a 189cm left-footed centre-back, was called up by Carlo Ancelotti in 2025 to become the first Lille player capped by Brazil. Beside him is Belgium international Nathan Ngoy, who emerged at Standard Liège. The flanks are held by Romain Perraud, a 173cm left-footer named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year for his work at Brest, and Portugal international Tiago Santos, who arrived from Estoril.
- Troyes answer with a mixed defensive quartet. In the middle are 193cm Ivorian Michel Diaz, a Nantes academy product who came back via Annecy, and Adrien Monfray, born in 1990 with long service at Grenoble and Laval. Lucas Maronnier, just 172cm, takes the right, while 19-year-old academy graduate Anis Ouzenadji fills the left. How that patchwork handles a Lille attack that has scored five in three is the central question.
- The goalkeeping contrast is worth noting. Lille have Turkey international Berke Özer, a 190cm keeper raised in Fenerbahçe's academy who served apprenticeships in Belgium and Portugal. Troyes turn to Patrick Beach, born in 2003, who crossed from Melbourne City in Australia. The gap in experience and physique between the two means the shot count at either end will define the shape of the afternoon.
- The benches are lopsided. Lille can summon 39-year-old Olivier Giroud, France's all-time leading scorer with 137 caps and a 2018 World Cup winner, alongside captain Benjamin André, who lifted the Coupe de France with Rennes in 2019, PSG-raised 19-year-old Ethan Mbappé, younger brother of Kylian, and 170cm Morocco winger Osame Sahraoui. Troyes reply with 33-year-old Renaud Ripart, a veteran of long service at clubs including Nimes, plus a clutch of academy graduates.
