Match Preview
- Matchday 6 pits 12th-placed Brest (5 points) against eighth-placed Angers (7 points), with only two points separating them in a congested mid-table where 10th-placed Le Mans (6) down to 15th-placed Nice (5) are covered by two points. Leaders Lille have 13 points from six games, and with goal differences of -1 for Brest and +1 for Angers, this is as evenly matched as the table suggests. A win would lift either side several places.
- Brest arrive with one win, two draws and two defeats from five matches. Their only victory came on the road at Le Havre (1-2) in round three, and at home they have drawn 2-2 with Toulouse and lost 0-1 to Paris Saint-Germain. Angers, by contrast, are unbeaten in two away trips, winning 3-1 at Auxerre and grinding out a 0-0 at Le Havre, and come here off a 2-0 home win over Troyes.
- Brest lead the line with Ludovic Ajorque, the 197cm target man. The 32-year-old Frenchman has previously played for Mainz, Strasbourg and Clermont, but his list of former clubs also includes Angers, making this a reunion. He won a League Cup and scored 50 goals during his Strasbourg spell, and alongside his aerial threat his touch allows him to link play with his back to goal.
- Angers have a returning face of their own. Haris Belkebla starts in midfield against the club where he helped win promotion to Ligue 1. The 32-year-old Algeria international moved to Saudi side Ohod before joining Angers in 2024, and now comes back to his former home ground as an opponent. How the ball-retaining veteran dictates tempo against the side he once served is one of the subplots worth tracking.
- The duel at the top end of the pitch is a 197cm against 197cm contest. Ajorque will be picked up by Ousmane Camara, the 23-year-old Mali international centre-back of identical height whose aerial strength and physicality are his calling cards. A Paris FC product, he signed a long-term extension in 2025 and has become the pillar of the back line, partnered by left-footed 33-year-old Jordan Lefort, whose experience spans Paris FC, Young Boys, Amiens and Strasbourg.
- Both teams line up in a 4-2-3-1, so the double-pivot battle will decide who controls the game. Brest pair Hugo Magnetti, 28, a Bastia product who has been at the club since 2018, with Joris Chotard, the 25-year-old France U21 international who racked up 177 Ligue 1 appearances for Montpellier after breaking in at 17. Angers counter with Belkebla and 188cm Dutchman Branco van den Boomen, 31, on loan from Ajax and a Ligue 2 title winner with Toulouse whose set-piece delivery is a genuine weapon.
- Brest's attacking band is full of character. Mali international Kamory Doumbia, 23 and just 170cm, made his name at Reims and brings 29 caps and 14 international goals as the creative hub. Flanking him, 22-year-old Senegalese Pathé Mboup (formerly of Lyon and Standard Liège) and 30-year-old Guinea-Bissau international Mama Baldé, a Sporting CP academy graduate, are both right-footed wide men who prefer to cut inside from the left and shoot.
- Angers hand the No.9 shirt to 19-year-old Prosper Peter, who joined the academy at 14, signed his first professional contract in September 2024 and made his Ligue 1 debut in April 2025. Gabon international Jim Allevinah, 31, a former Clermont man who featured at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, takes the right flank, Moroccan Amine Sbaï, 25, formerly of Al-Fateh, the left, with academy graduate Yassin Belkhdim, 24, supplying from central areas.
- The goalkeeping matchup offers a striking contrast. Brest field 193cm Norway international Egil Selvik, 29, who arrived in August 2026 on loan from Watford with an obligation to buy after passing through Haugesund and Udinese in search of regular football. Angers rely on 36-year-old Anthony Lopes, the Portugal international who spent around 12 seasons as Lyon's first choice, was part of their Euro 2016-winning squad, and is renowned for close-range reflex saves.
- The age profile of the two back lines could hardly be more different. Brest use 35-year-old Kenny Lala at right-back, a League Cup winner with Strasbourg and a back-to-back Greek league champion with Olympiacos, alongside 191cm Gautier Lloris, 31, younger brother of former France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, and Lucas Tousart, 29, who made 127 Bundesliga appearances with Hertha and Union Berlin after leaving Lyon. Angers answer with 19-year-old Marius Louër, a France youth international at U16, U17 and U18 level, and 21-year-old Joseph Kalulu.
