Match Preview
- This is a pressure game for Troyes, who sit 17th on four points from six matches (1W-1D-4L) with a goal difference of -9 and only a two-point cushion over bottom club Le Havre. Lens arrive 11th on seven points from a 2W-1D-3L start, looking for the away win that would pull them clear of the congested middle of the table.
- Troyes' recent sequence reads W-L-L-L-L. After a 2-1 win at Lorient in round two they were beaten 6-2 at home by Strasbourg, then lost 2-0 at Lille, 2-0 at Angers and 2-0 at home to Marseille. That is three consecutive defeats by the identical scoreline and, crucially, three straight matches without finding the net.
- The season totals tell the story: four goals scored, 13 conceded for the promoted side, against Lens' 11 scored and 10 conceded for a +1 difference. Lens ended a rough run by beating fifth-placed Lyon (11 points) 2-1 at home last time out, having earlier lost 1-0 at home to Lorient and 2-1 away at second-placed Monaco.
- Odsonne Edouard leads the Lens line. The 28-year-old, 187cm striker came through the PSG academy, joined Celtic for a club-record fee and spent time in the Premier League with Leicester and Crystal Palace. Behind him is 35-year-old Florian Sotoca, a club institution since 2019 who climbed from the fourth tier of French football after starting out at his hometown club in Narbonne.
- The other man off the front is Florian Thauvin, 33, a 2018 World Cup winner who scored 86 goals in 281 games for Marseille. The left-footed right-sided attacker cuts inside to shoot and brings experience gathered at Udinese, Tigres and Newcastle, making him the most dangerous individual the Troyes back line will face.
- Lens field a strikingly young double pivot in their 3-4-2-1. Andrija Bulatovic is only 19, signed from Buducnost Podgorica and already capped and on the scoresheet for Montenegro's senior side. His partner Yassine Titraoui, 23 and 170cm, arrived from Charleroi in August 2026 on a deal to 2031 and covers enormous ground as an Algeria international.
- The wing-back duel should shape the game. Lens use Poland international Michal Skoras, 26 and 172cm, a Lech Poznan product with spells at Club Brugge and Gent, on one flank and 33-year-old Ruben Aguilar, formerly of Montpellier and Monaco, on the other. Troyes counter with the 172cm Guingamp graduate Lucas Maronnier among their back four, promising an athletic contest down the sides.
- Troyes mix height and mileage at the back. Michel Diaz, a 193cm Ivory Coast centre-back of 23 who came through Nantes and returned via Annecy, partners 35-year-old Adrien Monfray, a 185cm veteran of Grenoble and Laval, with Paolo Gozzi, 25, adding Italian experience from Juventus, Genoa and Pescara. In goal is 23-year-old Australian Patrick Beach, who moved to France from Melbourne City.
- Lens also trust youth between the posts. Robin Risser, 21, stands 192cm, came through the Strasbourg academy and has been called up by France at under-21 level, with his reach a real asset on crosses. The 36-year-old Mathieu Gorgelin, a Lyon academy product and long-time first-choice at Le Havre, offers a very different profile from the bench.
- That Lens bench carries serious weight. Thorgan Hazard, 33, first made his name here on loan before Borussia Monchengladbach, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund, and has returned on a contract to 2028. Alongside him are Mali international Amadou Haidara, who spent seven seasons at RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich academy graduate Michael Cuisance, and Saud Abdulhamid, the first Saudi Arabian player in Ligue 1.
