Match Preview
- Arsenal arrive on the south coast as the only side in the division with a perfect record: four wins from four, 12 points and just one goal conceded. They top the table only on goal difference from Manchester City, who also have 12 points but sit at +6 to Arsenal's +7. Brighton are sixth on seven points, five adrift, and a home win would drag the leaders back within range before the season has properly settled.
- The standings flatter Arsenal in one respect only. Brighton's +8 is the best goal difference in the league, built on 13 goals in four matches against Arsenal's eight. A 4-0 home dismantling of Aston Villa on the opening weekend and a 5-0 rout at Coventry in round four show what this attack can do when it clicks.
- Brighton's defensive record is badly skewed by one afternoon: four of their five goals conceded came in a 4-3 loss at Chelsea, and they were pegged back to a 1-1 draw at home by Leeds. Arsenal offer the opposite profile, having kept clean sheets in both away games so far, winning 1-0 at Villa Park and 2-0 at Sunderland.
- Both sides set up in a 4-2-3-1, so the double pivots face each other head on. Brighton pair 35-year-old Pascal Gross, back at the club since January 2026 after a spell at Borussia Dortmund and still their most reliable set-piece deliverer, with 21-year-old, 190cm Baixauli. Arsenal answer with Declan Rice, the 188cm England midfielder signed from West Ham, and Brazil's Bruno Guimarães, a former Lyon and Newcastle man built for press resistance.
- There is a Greek subplot running through the fixture. Brighton's lone striker is 19-year-old Charalampos Kostoulas, an 185cm Olympiacos product who leads the line with his back to goal. Arsenal's Christos Tzolis lines up in the attacking band: a 24-year-old PAOK graduate who scored 22 goals for Club Brugge last season before a move worth roughly £34m, with previous stops at Norwich, Twente and Fortuna Düsseldorf.
- Brighton's centre-back pairing is an unusual one. Luka Vušković, 19, and Pascal Struijk, 27, are both 190cm and both left-footed. Vušković came through Hajduk Split and made his Croatia debut at 16; Struijk is an Ajax academy graduate who spent years as a mainstay at Leeds. Their assignment is Kai Havertz, 193cm, who drops in as a false nine yet still wins his duels in the air.
- Viktor Gyökeres faces a former club from the Arsenal bench. Brighton were an early stop for the 28-year-old Sweden international, who went on to loans at Swansea and St Pauli, a spell at Coventry and then the extraordinary Sporting CP run of 97 goals in 102 appearances. A genuine number nine with 189cm of physicality and a taste for running in behind is a heavy late-game problem for a teenage centre-back.
- Bukayo Saka is the obvious danger down the right. The 25-year-old England international, a product of Arsenal's own academy, is left-footed and lethal cutting inside, with Martin Ødegaard — Norway's captain, a Real Madrid signing at 16 — pulling the strings behind him. Brighton's Maxim De Cuyper, a 25-year-old Belgium international who played Champions League football at Club Brugge and whips in an excellent left-footed cross, must balance his attacking instincts against that duel.
- The benches may decide it. Arsenal can introduce Eberechi Eze, Crystal Palace's driving force in their 2025 FA Cup triumph, EURO 2024 winner Mikel Merino, Real Sociedad-schooled holding midfielder Martín Zubimendi, and 16-year-old Max Dowman, already a Premier League debutant at 15. Brighton counter with Matt O'Riley, the Denmark international who was named Scottish Premiership player of the year at Celtic, and 24-year-old Georginio Rutter, formerly of Leeds and Hoffenheim.
- The goalkeeping comparison is worth a look as well. Bart Verbruggen, 24 and 194cm, is an Anderlecht-schooled Netherlands international whose comfort on the ball makes him Brighton's first builder. David Raya, 31, arrived from Brentford with a reputation for penalty saves and has conceded only once in four league outings this season.
