Match Preview
- Newly promoted Ipswich sit 11th on six points from five games, a record of two wins and three defeats with no draws at all, scoring seven and conceding 11 for a goal difference of minus four. Fulham are 19th and still without a victory, their two points coming from a pair of draws, with five scored and eight conceded. With leaders Manchester City already on 15, Fulham badly need a first win of the campaign.
- Shared opponents sharpen the comparison. Ipswich beat Sunderland 2-1 at home on the opening weekend and won 3-2 at Crystal Palace in round four; Fulham lost 1-0 at Sunderland and 3-2 at home to the same Palace side. The pattern flips against Liverpool, however: Ipswich were beaten 2-0 at home while Fulham held out for a goalless draw away at Liverpool.
- Momentum is moving in opposite directions. Fulham lost their first three fixtures but have since drawn 0-0 away to Liverpool and 1-1 at home with Manchester United, signs that Silva's defence is tightening. Ipswich, by contrast, have been all or nothing: a 5-2 battering away to Manchester United in round two and a 1-0 loss at Everton in round five, broken up by two wins.
- There is a double reunion angle in the home side. Sasa Lukic, the 30-year-old Serbia box-to-box midfielder who starts in Ipswich's engine room, joined from Fulham after earlier spells with Torino and Partizan. So too did Issa Diop, the 194cm France-schooled centre-back who moved from Toulouse to West Ham before his time at Fulham. Both will know plenty about how the visitors build their attacks.
- Daizen Maeda offers a strong Japanese interest in the Ipswich front line. The 28-year-old won a J1 golden boot after coming through Matsumoto Yamaga, Mito and Yokohama F. Marinos, then spent close to five years at Celtic collecting Scottish honours. His extraordinary straight-line speed and relentless pressing from the front are exactly the tools to unsettle Fulham's tall central midfield pairing.
- Ipswich's attacking unit is built on individual dribblers. Emerson leads the line, a 186cm Brazilian who came through Athletico Paranaense before scoring heavily at Goztepe and moving on to Toulouse. Behind him are Julio Enciso, the Paraguay international who turned professional at 15 with Libertad, and Jaden Philogene, an Aston Villa academy product who made his name at Hull City.
- The midfield battle is also a battle of size. Fulham anchor the middle with 195cm Norway international Sander Berge alongside 189cm Shea Charles, the Northern Ireland man schooled at Manchester City, giving them enormous reach in central areas. Ipswich counter with Florentino Luis, the Benfica-raised holding midfielder who has also played for Monaco and Burnley, screening the back four next to Lukic.
- Fulham's attack mixes youth with pedigree. Gonzalo Garcia, 22, came through Real Madrid's academy and equalled the club record with 25 goals in a season for Castilla. He is supported by left-footed Norway winger Oscar Bobb, a £27m permanent signing from Manchester City in January 2026, 19-year-old Josh King, who has been at Fulham since under-9 level and debuted in the Premier League at 17, and former Arsenal man Alex Iwobi.
- The benches could swing it. Ipswich hold back Argentina midfielder Exequiel Palacios, who signed from Bayer Leverkusen in August 2026 having won the Copa Libertadores with River Plate and the 2023-24 Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double in Germany. Fulham can call on Kevin, a club-record £34.6m arrival from Shakhtar Donetsk, former Arsenal playmaker Emile Smith Rowe and 192cm Denmark centre-back Joachim Andersen.
