- Manchester City name 21-year-old Japan prospect Aemu Oyama among the substitutes. The 160cm central midfielder arrived via Nippon TV Tokyo Verdy Beleza and Waseda University, helped Japan reach a U20 World Cup final and still holds the record as the WE League's youngest scorer. City carry several Japanese players on their books but Oyama is the only one in this matchday squad, so any cameo alongside Sam Coffey would be worth watching.
- The reunion of the afternoon belongs to Tottenham's Julie Blakstad. The 24-year-old left-footed attacker once moved to Manchester City for a record fee for a Norwegian player, spent time on loan at BK Hacken and joined Spurs in January 2026. She starts against her former club, and her habit of cutting inside from the left is exactly the threat City know best.
- City's front line is frightening on paper. Vivianne Miedema, the WSL's all-time leading scorer and the Netherlands' record goalscorer, leads the line after her move from Arsenal, flanked by Jamaica captain Khadija Shaw, a 180cm striker equally comfortable off either foot. Add Kerolin, the 2023 NWSL MVP and Paris 2024 silver medallist with Brazil, and goals can come from anywhere.
- The left flank should decide the tempo. Lauren Hemp, England's 165cm left-footed winger, is built to attack space with pure acceleration and dribbling. She faces Amanda Nilden, the Sweden left-back who joined from Juventus in 2024 and played at EURO 2022, a defender who blends pace with physicality and relishes wide duels. How often Hemp isolates her will tell the story.
- Spurs captain Beth England leads the line with a decorated CV. The 31-year-old won both the WSL Player of the Year and the PFA award during her Chelsea days and joined Tottenham in January 2023 for a then domestic-record fee of GBP 250,000. Standing in her way are Alex Greenwood, a centurion for England whose left foot delivers every set piece, and 178cm Canada international Jade Rose, signed from San Diego Wave.
- Tottenham's midfield has a heavy Scandinavian accent. Matilda Vinberg won a league and cup double at Hammarby and made her senior debut at 15 before joining in January 2024. Denmark's Olivia Holt scored 25 goals in 47 games for Rosengard and struck directly from a free-kick on her Spurs debut in January 2025, while 21-year-old Norwegian forward Katinka Tandberg adds another runner from Hammarby.
- Experience cuts both ways. Drew Spence, Tottenham's 33-year-old Jamaica international, spent years as a Chelsea regular before moving to north London in 2022 and remains the calming presence in midfield. Behind her, Molly Bartrip played every single WSL minute in 2024-25 and reached 100 club appearances in May 2025; reading Miedema's movement and Shaw's runs is the task she has prepared for.
- The goalkeeping contrast is stark. City trust 21-year-old academy graduate Khiara Keating, nominated for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2024. Tottenham counter with Lize Kop, the 173cm Netherlands international who came through Ajax and spent time at Leicester, compensating for a compact frame with sharp reflexes and positioning.
- Both benches carry serious weapons. City hold back Leila Ouahabi, the Spain left-back who won five league titles and a Champions League at Barcelona, Germany midfielder Sydney Lohmann of Bayern Munich vintage, and 35-year-old WSL veteran Laura Coombs. Spurs can introduce Eveliina Summanen, their record WSL assist provider who signed a long-term deal in February 2026, plus 75-cap Finland international Olga Ahtinen.
- There is a family subplot on the Tottenham bench. Matilda Nilden, 21, is the younger sister of starting left-back Amanda Nilden. She won the Damallsvenskan with BK Hacken and scored 23 goals in 25 Elitettan matches before joining Spurs at the end of 2025, so an appearance would put both sisters on the pitch together.
