Match Preview
- Two opening-day winners meet near the top of the table. Liverpool are second after a 4-0 win away at Charlton that gave them a goal difference of +4, while Tottenham are fourth following a 3-1 home victory over West Ham. Both sit on three points, chasing Chelsea, who lead with four points from two games.
- There is a Japan international duel at the heart of it. Liverpool's Fuka Nagano (27) is a mainstay of the Nadeshiko midfield who has played for Urawa, Incheon Hyundai Steel and North Carolina Courage, combining precise passing with high pressing intensity. Facing her is Tottenham's 20-year-old centre-back Toko Koga, the youngest goalscorer in the club's history at 19.
- Koga joined from Feyenoord in July 2025 and started all four of Japan's matches at the 2024 Paris Olympics. At 173cm she is strong in the air and comfortable building from the back, qualities she will need against Liverpool's Swedish strike pair Cornelia Kapocs (26) and Beata Olsson (25). Whether Nagano can find space in behind her is one of the key sub-plots.
- Liverpool's front line has a distinctly Swedish accent. Kapocs and Olsson both came through Kristianstads DFF and American college football in Florida, and both can operate centrally or wide. They are joined by German forward Vivien Endemann (25), a product of SGS Essen who also played for Wolfsburg, as Liverpool look to repeat their four-goal opening display at home.
- Tottenham match them for midfield experience. Eveliina Summanen (28), the club's record WSL assist provider, signed a long-term deal in February 2026 and supplies the creativity, while Jamaica international Drew Spence (33) brings the composure of a long Chelsea career. Their battle with Nagano and Wales international Ceri Holland (28), formerly of Manchester United, will shape the tempo.
- Spurs' summer recruit Gaupset is another to watch. The Norway international scored 15 goals with 12 assists for Brann in 2025, winning the league title and the player of the year award, then made her name at Euro 2025 with two goals against Iceland before signing a long-term deal and taking the No. 8 shirt. Her running power will test Scotland centre-back Jenna Clark (24, 178cm).
- Both flanks promise duels. Tottenham field Matilda Vinberg (23), a Sweden international who won a domestic double with Hammarby and was named breakthrough player of the year, and left-footed Julie Blakstad (25), who once moved to Manchester City for a record fee for a Norwegian player before joining Spurs in January 2026. Liverpool captain Grace Fisk (28), signed from West Ham, leads the response.
- The goalkeeping contrast is youth against experience. Liverpool trust 21-year-old Ciara Keating, a Manchester City academy graduate nominated for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2024, behind a side that has yet to concede this season. Tottenham have Netherlands international Lize Kop (28), whose career includes spells at Ajax and Leicester.
- Both benches carry attacking options. Liverpool can introduce Austria international Marie-Therese Hobinger (25) and Sweden U-23 right-back Alice Bergstrom (23), signed from BK Hacken. Tottenham counter with Germany striker Shekiera Martinez (25), who won the golden boot at the 2018 U-17 Euros with nine goals, and Denmark winger Olivia Holdt (25), who scored 25 in 47 games for Rosengard.
