Where to watch in 2026-27 — the streaming map for viewers in Japan

This guide covers rights and services in Japan, where this site is based. If you watch from elsewhere, the table won’t apply — but the section on catch-up viewing at the end holds anywhere.

For 2026-27, football streaming in Japan has consolidated around three providers: DAZN, U-NEXT and WOWOW.

Information here is current as of August 2026. Rights move every year, so check the provider’s own pages before subscribing.

The table

Japan and Nadeshiko Japan internationals are not in the table: broadcasters vary by tournament and organiser.

How to choose

If you watch on catch-up rather than live, it helps to pick by which time slots you refuse to give up, not by which competitions you like.

Premier League first? U-NEXT

The Premier League and the FA Cup are in the same pack, which makes this the shortest route for following English football. The Eredivisie is in that pack too, so England plus the Netherlands is a single subscription.

Both are leagues with a substantial number of Japanese players, which matters if that’s what you follow.

J1 first? DAZN

All J1, J2 and J3 matches, plus Ligue 1 and the WSL on the same subscription. If J1 is your anchor and you want some European football alongside it, this one covers it.

Because the WSL moved to DAZN this season, the league where most of the Nadeshiko Japan squad plays is now on the same subscription as J1. That is the biggest change of the year.

La Liga is on both

La Liga is carried by both services, so if you already have either one, you don’t need to add anything for it.

If La Liga is the only thing you want, it comes down to price. As of August 2026, U-NEXT’s Soccer Pack is ¥2,600/month and DAZN is ¥4,200/month, with annual plans and first-time offers changing the effective figure.

European cups are separate

The Champions League, Europa League and Conference League are on WOWOW, and are in neither DAZN nor U-NEXT. Following domestic leagues and European nights means a third provider.

Three things to check for catch-up viewing

Before comparing prices or line-ups, check these.

1. When catch-up becomes available

How long after full time a replay appears varies by competition and provider. It is often available within tens of minutes, but if you want to watch the same day, this is the real constraint.

2. Whether you can rewind a live stream to kick-off

If you join a match in progress, can you get back to kick-off? This is the crux of catch-up viewing. Most services start playback at the live position, so hitting play without thinking about the start point puts the score in front of you.

Cover the screen before you press play, or seek back first. Making that a habit removes most of the risk.

3. Whether the app’s home screen shows scores

This is the biggest trap. Some apps put the score on the thumbnail or in the highlights row the moment you open them.

The reliable fix is to reach the match page directly from a bookmark or home-screen shortcut, never via the app’s home screen. Build that route once and the accidents essentially stop.
