Club History

Avispa Fukuoka traces its origins to the Chuo Bohan football club, founded in 1982 in Fujieda, Shizuoka Prefecture. After winning the JFL Division 2 title in 1992, the club pursued J-League admission but could not secure adequate stadium facilities in Fujieda. In 1994, the club relocated to Fukuoka City and was rebranded as "Fukuoka Blux." A JFL championship in 1995 earned promotion to the J-League, and the club adopted its current name, Avispa Fukuoka, upon joining in 1996.

"Avispa" means "wasp" in Spanish, symbolising the team's spirit of darting around the pitch with collective energy despite their modest size. After years of yo-yoing between J1 and J2, the club returned to the top flight in 2021 and has since established themselves as a consistent J1 presence. In 2023, Avispa reached the Levain Cup final and the Emperor's Cup semi-finals, marking a new chapter in the club's history.

Kyushu's Standard-Bearer

Fukuoka stands as the sole J1 club in the football-passionate Kyushu region, giving the team a special significance for supporters across southern Japan. At their home ground, Best Denki Stadium, the fiercely loyal fanbase creates a distinctive atmosphere that makes it a daunting away trip for visiting sides.

The club has also invested in youth development. Defender Tomoya Ando, an academy product, made 36 J1 appearances in the 2025 season and earned his first Japan national team call-up, illustrating how the growth of young talent has become a driving force for the club.

Best Denki Stadium

Officially known as Higashihirao Park Hakata-no-Mori Stadium, the ground was built for the 1995 Fukuoka Universiade and has a capacity of 21,562. Best Denki acquired the naming rights in 2020, and the venue is affectionately known as "Bessuta" among supporters.

Located just 10 minutes by car from Fukuoka Airport, the stadium offers excellent accessibility for away fans travelling from across Kyushu and beyond. As a dedicated football ground, the close proximity between the pitch and the stands produces an intense matchday atmosphere.
