Founded in 1955 as the football club of electronics giant Fujitsu, the team spent decades competing in Japan's corporate leagues before gaining independence as Kawasaki Frontale in 1996 and entering the J2 League in 1999. The name "Frontale" comes from the Italian word for "frontal," reflecting the club's ethos of always facing challenges head-on.
After oscillating between J1 and J2 in the early 2000s, Frontale secured promotion in 2005 and have remained in the top flight ever since. Manager Yahiro Kazama (2012-2017) established a possession-based attacking identity that became the club's DNA. His successor, Toru Oniki, built on those foundations to create a dynasty: the club's first-ever J1 title arrived in 2017, followed by titles in 2018, 2020, and 2021 -- four league championships in five seasons.
Now navigating a transitional period of squad renewal, Frontale appointed Shigetoshi Hasebe as manager for the 2025 season, aiming to launch a new cycle while preserving their commitment to entertaining, attack-minded football.
Officially known as Uvance Todoroki Stadium by Fujitsu, the ground sits within the Todoroki Ryokuchi parklands in Kawasaki's Nakahara ward. With a capacity of 26,827, it is easily accessible from JR Musashi-Kosugi and Musashi-Nakahara stations, and the surrounding area buzzes with supporters on matchdays.
Kawasaki City is currently planning a comprehensive redevelopment of the Todoroki Ryokuchi area, with long-term aspirations for a football-specific stadium. The project has become a symbol of the club's deep integration with the local community.
Kawasaki Frontale are widely regarded as the gold standard for fan engagement in the J.League. Under the motto "More than just football," the club stages inventive events -- from banana-selling competitions and maths workbook giveaways to players visiting local public baths. These creative initiatives have earned the club multiple J.League Best Marketing Awards.
The "Fron Park" food village outside the stadium is another matchday highlight, featuring stalls from local restaurants and drawing large family crowds. The fusion of on-pitch excellence and off-pitch entertainment defines the Kawasaki Frontale experience.
