Founded in 1906 in A Coruña, Galicia. Their golden era ran from the 1990s into the 2000s: the 1999-2000 league title, two Copa del Rey wins and a Champions League semi-final — the "Súper Depor" years.

Relegation from the top flight in 2018 was followed by financial trouble and a slide as far as the third tier in 2020. Rebuilt step by step, they are back in LaLiga after eight years.

Deportivo took the second automatic spot in the Segunda División, sealing promotion with a 2-0 win over Real Valladolid before the final round. Antonio Hidalgo was the head coach.

A month after promotion the club announced the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (#17, FW) from Marseille for a reported €1.5m on a two-year deal to June 2028. The Gabon international, formerly of Arsenal, Barcelona and Dortmund, will play at Riazor at 37.

The other focal point is Yeremay Hernández (#10), a 169cm attacker who came through the club's own academy. Veteran and homegrown together carry the attack in their first season back.
