Club History

Founded in 1970 through the merger of Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain, the club was created to give the French capital a top-tier football team. PSG have been ever-present in Ligue 1 since 1974, making them one of the most stable clubs in French football history.

The club's trajectory changed forever in 2011 when Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) completed their takeover. With vast financial resources, PSG attracted global superstars including Ibrahimovic, Neymar, and Mbappe, winning 11 of the last 12 league titles. In 2024-25, PSG finally lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy for the first time in their history, completing a remarkable treble alongside the league title and Coupe de France.

Playing Style

Luis Enrique, appointed in 2023, brought his Barcelona and Spain-honed philosophy to Paris. He emphasises possession-based football with a high press, transforming the team from star-dependent to tactically organised.

Following Mbappe's departure in 2024, the collective approach deepened further. Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola, and a technically gifted midfield provide diverse attacking patterns that no longer rely on individual brilliance.

Parc des Princes

Located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, the Parc des Princes — meaning "Princes' Park" — was originally built as a velodrome in 1897. After a major reconstruction in 1972, it became PSG's home in 1974. The stadium holds 47,929 spectators.

Situated directly opposite Stade Jean-Bouin, it forms part of a sporting district in western Paris. Expansion and renovation plans have been under discussion as the club seeks facilities befitting its global ambitions.

The Post-Mbappe Era

Kylian Mbappe's departure to Real Madrid in 2024 opened a new chapter for PSG — one focused on collective strength over individual stardom. With Neymar, Messi, and Mbappe all gone, Luis Enrique's tactical system delivered 92 league goals in 2024-25, proving the team could thrive without a single talisman.

The summer of 2025 saw Donnarumma leave for Manchester City, but the arrival of France goalkeeper Chevalier from Lille signalled continued generational renewal. Barcola, Dembele, and academy product Zaire-Emery form the French core of a PSG building for the future.
