Established in 1879 as Fulham St Andrew's Church Sunday School FC, Fulham are London's oldest professional football club. Based at Craven Cottage on the banks of the River Thames since 1896, the club has seen legendary players grace its pitch, including Johnny Haynes, George Cohen, and Bobby Moore.
Fulham reached the Premier League for the first time in 2001 under Mohamed Al Fayed's ownership. Their finest European hour came in the 2009-10 Europa League, where they produced a stunning run past Juventus, Shakhtar Donetsk and Basel before falling to Atletico Madrid in the final. In 2013, Pakistani-American businessman Shahid Khan, owner of the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, purchased the club and ushered in a new era of investment.
After winning the Championship under Marco Silva in 2022, Fulham have maintained their Premier League status for three consecutive seasons, steadily shedding the "yo-yo club" label that once defined them.
Marco Silva has employed a consistent 4-2-3-1 shape since arriving in 2021, building an attacking identity founded on purposeful possession. While Fulham's ball retention hovers around 50%, the quality and directness of their passing is elite -- only Liverpool bettered their progressive pass count across the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons.
Silva's coaching philosophy revolves around "ambition, bravery, and structured expression." His teams build from the back, press high, and maintain attacking intent regardless of the opposition. With creative talents like Andreas Pereira orchestrating play, Fulham alternate smartly between wide and central channels to unlock defences.
Situated on the banks of the River Thames, Craven Cottage is often described as a jewel of English football. The site's history stretches back to 1780, when William Craven, the sixth Baron Craven, built a cottage here. The novelist Edward Bulwer-Lytton once resided on the grounds before the original cottage was destroyed by fire in 1888. Fulham have called it home since 1896, making it one of the longest continuously occupied grounds in professional football.
In 2025, an £80 million redevelopment of the Riverside Stand was completed, increasing capacity from 25,700 to 29,600. Owner Shahid Khan purchased a section of the River Thames itself to extend the stand over the water -- a bold engineering feat that created riverside terraces and dining areas, blending football with the unique charm of London's waterfront.
