Founded in 1987 as Arsenal Ladies, the club is the most decorated in English women's football. They hold records for the most titles in every domestic competition: 15 league championships, 14 FA Women's Cups, and 7 League Cups.
In 2007, Arsenal became the only English club to win the UEFA Women's Champions League (then the UEFA Women's Cup). In 2024-25, they claimed their second European title after 18 years, defeating Barcelona in the final. From the 2025-26 season, all WSL home matches are played at the Emirates Stadium (capacity 60,704), marking a new era for the club.
When Jonas Eidevall departed in October 2024, interim head coach Renee Slegers transformed the team dramatically, improving the points-per-game average from 1.25 to 2.39. She was confirmed as permanent manager in January 2025 and led the club all the way to Champions League glory.
The Dutch coach has built an aggressively structured style built on organised pressing and fluid possession. Her ability to turn tactical confusion into clarity in such a short period has been widely praised across the women's game.
In summer 2025, Arsenal signed Canadian forward Olivia Smith from Liverpool for a world-record £1 million fee -- the first seven-figure transfer in the history of women's football. The 20-year-old scored 9 goals in 25 appearances during her debut WSL season and adds another dimension to the European champions' attack.
