Established within the club's structure in 1988, Manchester City Women entered the top flight when the WSL expanded in 2014. They won the FA Women's League Cup in their first season and claimed their maiden WSL title in 2016. The team is based at the Academy Stadium (capacity 7,000), part of the Etihad Campus.
Backed by the City Football Group's significant investment, the club has consistently recruited world-class talent. In recent years, they have built a distinctive identity by signing multiple Japanese internationals, with around 30% of all Japanese players ever to play in the WSL having worn the City shirt.
After Gareth Taylor departed in March 2025, former Denmark Women's head coach Andree Jeglertz was appointed in July. The Swede, a two-time Damallsvenskan Manager of the Year and UEFA Women's Cup winner with Umea, has brought immediate impact.
Under Jeglertz, City have led the WSL in shots, shots on target, goals, shot conversion rate, expected goals, and big chances. With Khadija Shaw leading the scoring charts, the team has established itself as the dominant force in the 2025-26 title race.
