Hugo Broos' (Belgian) South Africa announced their final 26 on May 27 (trimmed from a 32-man preliminary on May 21). This is Bafana Bafana's first World Cup in 16 years (since 2010 home) — their fourth ever after 1998, 2002 and 2010. Built on 2023 AFCON bronze momentum.

Backbone: captain Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns, Africa's Goalkeeper of the Year on the back of his four-save 2023 AFCON shoot-out), Teboho Mokoena (Mamelodi, midfield core), Lyle Foster (Burnley, Premier League No.9), and 21-year-old Relebohile Mofokeng (2024 Africa Young Player of the Year). PSL-heavy spine (Mamelodi Sundowns + Orlando Pirates), with few European-based players besides Foster and Okon (Hannover).

June 11 vs Mexico is the World Cup 2026 opening match — a historic stage at 2,250m altitude in Azteca against the hosts. Then June 18 vs Czechia and June 24 vs South Korea. With no Pot 1 opponents the gap is thin — bettering the 2010 home group exit and reaching the knockouts is realistic.

LIKELY 4-3-3.

Hugo Broos' preferred 4-3-3. Mokoena anchors the midfield with Sithole and Mbatha as 8s. Front three: Mofokeng (right), Foster (No.9), and Zwane or Appollis (left). PSL-heavy spine relies on fitness and pressing.

4-3-3 (predicted)
