101 goals
One hundred and one goals in 34 matches — close to three per game, and 31 more than second-placed Feyenoord.
PSV went 27-3-4 for 84 points, 19 clear of second. Their 45 conceded was not the best in the league, though: Twente conceded 40 and Ajax 41. This was a title won at the attacking end, not the defensive one.
The Eredivisie is known as a high-scoring league, but passing 100 is still exceptional. PSV, founded in 1913 as a club for Philips employees, produced one of the more emphatic campaigns in its history.
NEC Nijmegen, third
Third-placed NEC scored 77, the second-highest total in the league — more than Ajax (62) or Feyenoord (70).
They also conceded 53, above the middle of the table, finishing 16-11-7. A side that stacked draws and was happy to trade chances. Whatever “the big three” has meant historically in the Netherlands, this season broke the frame.
Ajax: six defeats, fifth place
Ajax went 14-14-6 and finished fifth. Six defeats was the second-fewest in the division behind champions PSV (4), level with Twente — on losses alone, that is title-race form.
The problem was the 14 draws. Their 41 conceded was the second-best defensive record in the league, but 62 scored trailed PSV’s 101, NEC’s 77 and Feyenoord’s 70. Solid but blunt, and that produced 56 points.
Convert seven of those draws into wins and Ajax finish on 70, in second. It was a season that took them a long way from a title.
Fourth-placed Twente went 15-13-6 with 13 draws of their own — two sides at the top who rarely lost and frequently drew.
Mid-table and below
Tenth-placed Sparta Rotterdam went 12-7-15 with 40 scored and 62 conceded — a goal difference of minus 22 in tenth. Their home, Het Kasteel, is one of the most storied grounds in the country; the season itself read closer to a relegation fight.
Go Ahead Eagles in 12th finished 8-14-12 — more draws than wins, an unusual way to complete a season.
Heracles conceded 85
Bottom club Heracles went 5-4-25 and conceded 85 — two and a half per game — while scoring 35. A goal difference of minus 50 stands out even among Europe’s major leagues this season.
NAC Breda finished on 29 and Volendam on 32. All three went down.
Into 2026-27
ADO Den Haag, Cambuur and Willem II came up. ADO’s return means Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague all have top-flight clubs again.
This season all three Rotterdam clubs — Feyenoord, Sparta and Excelsior — are in the Eredivisie, so several city derbies are scheduled. Cambuur’s promotion also revives the Frisian derby with Heerenveen.
