A Weekend Stacked With Derbies

Arsenal visit Mitoma's Brighton, with White and Gyökeres back on old ground

• Arsenal's right-back Ben White left Brighton for the Emirates, so the American Express Stadium is the ground where he grew up as a professional. Viktor Gyökeres also has Brighton on his CV. White, a converted centre-back, is the man who will line up directly opposite Kaoru Mitoma.
• Mitoma is a left winger who changes pace constantly and works through tight spaces with very small touches, having arrived in Europe via an unusual route through the University of Tsukuba. He threatens both with the cut-inside shot and the final pass, which is why William Saliba at 192cm and Martín Zubimendi have to manage the space behind him. A Madrid derby at the Metropolitano, with Courtois and Llorente facing familiar colours

• Thibaut Courtois, the 200cm Belgian who guards Real Madrid's goal, once played for Atlético. • Real Madrid counter with three individual match-winners in Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior and Jude Bellingham, supported by the 194cm Ibrahima Konaté, the 188cm Denzel Dumfries and Bernardo Silva. At 176cm he combines ball-winning with clean distribution, and he has been followed closely alongside his brother Kaishu, who plays for Mainz. Finding his place in a midfield that already holds Jerdy Schouten and Joey Veerman is the story of his season.
• Twente field several men with PSV in their past. Lars Unnerstall, the 198cm German goalkeeper, played in Eindhoven before becoming Twente's first choice, and Sam Lammers came through the PSV academy. Add the 197cm Wout Weghorst up front and Ramiz Zerrouki, back after a spell at Feyenoord, holding midfield.

Shimizu faces former club Liverpool as Japan internationals gather at the Joie Stadium

• Manchester City's Risa Shimizu is a right-back who returned to the club after a loan spell at Liverpool. At 157cm she is small for the position and began her career as a forward, coming through Nippon TV Beleza before a spell at West Ham. This is ninety minutes against her most recent employers.
• City also field Yui Hasegawa, Japan's captain and a centurion for the club, Aoba Fujino, a two-time WE League MVP, and goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita, named best goalkeeper at the 2026 Asian Cup.
